AGR's Adoption Process

We are happy (and also a bit sad) to report that all our available hounds have commitments from adopters. Please watch our Available Hounds Page and Facebook... we expect to receive more hounds soon.

Arizona Greyhound Rescue coordinates greyhound adoption in and around Tucson/Green Valley, Pinal County, and the southeast suburbs of Maricopa County. If you are in the Phoenix area, we may be able to serve you. Or we may recommend that you fill out an application with Racing Home Greyhounds  or Arizona Adopt A Greyhound. Also, The Greyhound Project maintains a list of all greyhound adoption organization in the US.

NOTE! Arizona Greyhound Rescue does not currently adopt to homes where there are children under the age of 15 years.

The Board will review your adoption application. If approved, a home visit is scheduled.

If the Board approves the findings of the home visit, a time is scheduled at our kennel for the adoption. Please know if you already have dogs, you will be required to bring them to the kennel so our behaviorist can observe the interaction. If there are no issues at that time, the adoption can proceed.

You will sign a Foster to Adopt contract. There is an adoption trial period of 7 days. During this time the hounds is still owned by AGR.

Our adoption fee is $350 for a Greyhound or Lurcher under 7 years of age. Senior dogs (7 and older) or special needs hounds are $300. Greyhound mixes are $200. All the hounds are spayed/neutered, dental, microchipped, wormed, wellness check up, blood work, tick fever and heartworm test, ears cleaned and nails trimmed, you receive some transition food, martigale leash combo and muzzle.

Foster A Greyhound or other Sighthound

Getting Involved: Volunteer for Arizona Greyhound Rescue

As with most pet-related, non-profit organizations that save lives, volunteerism is vital to our success. There are many soothing hands and dedicated hearts that go into rehoming one dog. AGR realizes that everyone has various amounts of time and skills to offer and we appreciate everyone for their efforts great and small.

Please peruse the list to see where you fit in and what you can do to help. Read more about volunteering for AGR.

Be a Mentor

What does the mentoring program accomplish? It is an attempt to ensure a successful and lasting adoption by providing support, resources, and information to new adopters in the first critical days and weeks of a new adoption. Read more about our mentor program.
