Arizona Greyhound Rescue coordinates greyhound adoption in and around Tucson/Green Valley, Pinal County, and the southeast suburbs of Maricopa County. If you are in the Phoenix area, we may be able to serve you. Or we may recommend that you fill out an application with Racing Home Greyhounds or Arizona Adopt A Greyhound. Also, The Greyhound Project maintains a list of all greyhound adoption organization in the US.
The Board will review your adoption application. If approved, a home visit is scheduled.
If the Board approves the findings of the home visit, a time is scheduled at our kennel for the adoption. Please know if you already have dogs, you will be required to bring them to the kennel so our behaviorist can observe the interaction. If there are no issues at that time, the adoption can proceed.
You will sign a Foster to Adopt contract. There is an adoption trial period of 7 days. During this time the hounds is still owned by AGR.
Our adoption fee is $350 for a Greyhound, Galgo, or Lurcher under 7 years of age. Senior dogs (7 and older) or special needs hounds are $300. Greyhound mixes are $200. All the hounds are spayed/neutered, dental, microchipped, wormed, wellness check up, blood work, tick fever and heartworm test, ears cleaned and nails trimmed, you receive some transition food, martigale leash combo and muzzle.
Arizona Greyhound Rescue is in constant need of foster homes for Tucson hounds while they await adoption.
Short-term and long-term foster possibilities are available. Approved medical care and supplies are provided.
As with most pet-related, non-profit organizations that save lives, volunteerism is vital to our success. There are many soothing hands and dedicated hearts that go into rehoming one dog. AGR realizes that everyone has various amounts of time and skills to offer and we appreciate everyone for their efforts great and small.
